Second Life is an online virtual world developed by Linden Lab. It was launched on June 23, 2003. A number of free client programs, or Viewers, enable Second Life users, called Residents, to interact with each other through avatars. Residents can explore the world (known as the grid), meet other residents, socialize, participate in individual and group activities, and create and trade virtual property and services with one another. Second Life is intended for people aged 16 and over.

Built into the software is a three-dimensional modeling tool based on simple geometric shapes that allows residents to build virtual objects. There is also a procedural scripting language, Linden Scripting Language, which can be used to add interactivity to objects.

Actually here when you sign up you make an avatar and that avatar is your identity it is 3 dimensional and when you login, you are put in to a virtual 3 dimensional world where you do everything that you think about doing in real world but you can’t. Members on such websites are rapidly increasing.

Avatars may take any form users choose (human, animal, vegetable, mineral, or a combination thereof) or residents may choose to resemble themselves as they are in real life, or they may choose even more abstract forms, given that almost every aspect of an avatar is fully customized  Second Life Culture comprises many activities and behaviors that are also present in real life. A single resident account may have only one avatar at a time, although the appearance of this avatar can change between as many different forms as the Resident wishes.

GoJiyo:

GoJiyo is a free, browser based 3D virtual world. It is first virtual world from India, which aims to create an online community where individuals can interact with one another and have the freedom to develop their Avatars the way they like. It offers an online experience by mixing mini online games and social networking.

Pretty much similar to Second Life, in GoJiyo Users interact within the world via this avatar – the avatars can fly, make different gestures , and interact with objects like sitting on deck chairs and getting on to a surf board to name a few. Users can also participate in games and quests across the different regions. The teleport feature helps movement within the world across regions. The “Teleport to a friend” is another feature that helps a user reach near a friend anywhere in the in-world.

There is a mix of mini-games and quests, some which are played individually and others in a group, with requirements of up to 4 players. Asteroid Smashing and Sky Diving are examples of group activities. In this respect, GoJiyo bears some similarity to online games; users’ in-world activities reward them with GoJiyo currency – Mios & Jios.

These websites have everything that can put you in to love with them, addiction with them is guaranteed. This is the list of some Virtual World Websites.
